Long bike rides don’t always end with cool pools.

Last week I had the pleasure of riding along with my wife on a bike ride to an interview. Before we left I had asked her how long it would take us to get there, and she replied “Not that long.” Riding bikes through the city is nice if don’t have a seat that sucks, and makes your butt feel like it’s slowly rubbing away as you ride along, but this was my case. Just for all you out there who might not have had the pleasure of coming to Amsterdam, bikes are like the bread and rice of Holland. People don’t drive cars they ride bikes with 3 to 4 kids on it with them at a time. It is really something else to see for the first time. Needless to say this was not the case with my wife and I. We started our ride, not knowing exactly how long it would take us. This interview was for a nanny job, three older kids who needed to be watched three afternoons a week. Twisting and winding through the city we slowly made our way outside the city more and more each minute. After 45 minutes of riding, with no luck we decided that this job was so not worth the long bike ride. On our way back my wife was talking about how she missed the beaches in Aruba, and how nice it would be to come home to a cold pool to swim in. I on the other hand wanted a nice hot tub to sooth my aching mussels. On our way back the lady who my wife was suppose to meet with, called our cell phone. She started to talk to my wife and everything sounded ok, and than with a sudden click she hung up on my wife, “What a be-otch.” It had been only 10 minutes since we were suppose to be there, and my wife was planning on calling her just as soon we got home, seeing as we had know air time on our phone. This is just one of the many stories you will come to here about in my first year of being a newly wed.

Sometimes life can be creative, or mundane

Saturdays always fascinate me, it is the one day, that most people don’t make plans. Fridays we plan time with friends and people we did not have time for during the week. Sundays it’s church, then out to eat with family and more friends. During the week, we have work or are to busy to make plans to do nothing. So when you really stop to think about it, Saturdays are truly the best, and I love it. I love the masses of people, that come out one day out of the week, to shop, walk around, and be together. I love to sit and people watch, to sit and be overwhelmed by the masses and take it all in. How different people look, and act, how funny some can be, when others are so odd. It inspires me, because it shows me that the One who created us was so creative when he made us. So when life gets you down, and you stop feel creative, or wish you could be more creative. Just take a walk outside on any given Saturday to be inspired by the masses of people, that were created all different.

Heart of a Father, fight of a Dragon

We say our prayers and get into bed, we close our eyes and hope for a peaceful sleep. We close our eyes and the dragon comes. It comes to steal our sleep and take or rest. We fight against, and resets being eaten by fear or despair, but the weight is to heavy for our tired eyes to carry. So we pray and we put our heavy hearts at the cross. We hope and pray, and ask Him who can do more than we can ever imagine to take our fear, to take our fight. Because we can not fight alone, we can not rush upon the battle field with know sword or shield. We close our eyes and hope for the best, but He can do more. He will fight our fights when the dragon becomes to big. When the dragon feels as though it has consumed our lives. When we feel as though we might bleed out on the battle field, and die from the fight. When our brothers fall, we must pick them up and carry them, and whisper in their ears, and tell them to hang in there, because in the end, the dragon will lose. Till the time when the trumpet sounds and the battle is over, we will trust in Him, to keep us in the fight, and to keep us going. Till that day, we will hang on to the heart of our Father, and fight back against the dragon.
